nightmare sisters formed in the college town of columbia, missouri in august of 2003, playing their first show on halloween of that year, and their last show sometime in june of 2004. their lineup consisted of christopher mathis (wombwood.bandcamp.com) on vocals and detuned guitar, adam roberts (marble faun, CAVE) on detuned guitar and korg polysix synthesizer, and eric busiek (bandcamp.com/ebusiek) on drums and drum machine. their main influences were bands like arab on radar, lake of dracula, mars, dna, sonic youth, the scissor girls, half japanese, u.s. maple, wolf eyes, melvins, and unwound, as well as the aesthetics of horror and slasher films from the 1970s and '80s.

in early 2004 they recorded an album with friends cooper crain (bitchinbajas.bandcamp.com) and joey hook in a studio located in an old bank outside of town (guitars were recorded inside of the bank's vault). the album was recorded and mixed in 24 hours (aided, in part, by adderall), keeping with the band's ethos of immediacy and simplicity.

during their short lifespan, nightmare sisters played shows with u.s. maple, chromatics, 90 day men, warhammer 48k, the paper chase, khanate, nautical almanac, and french performance artist/musician costes.

this re-release of their self-titled cd-r contains two bonus tracks recorded by cooper crain in the summer of 2004.
